If there’s one thing I’m leaning into this year, it’s balance—between building, learning, resting, and just enjoying life. This weekend was the perfect mix of that.

Saturday: Stretching My Brain with ChatGPT & Python

I gave myself the challenge of building something small but useful—not a massive undertaking, just a piece of something bigger. Something that could eventually be part of a financial analysis suite for Optimal and maybe even my future newsletter.

After some back-and-forth, I landed on a Portfolio & Trade Risk Analyzer—a tool that breaks down the risk of stock and crypto trades, including leverage.

Flexing My Brain with ChatGPT

One of the coolest parts of this project was using ChatGPT like a co-pilot—bouncing ideas, refining code, and breaking big problems into bite-sized tasks. Instead of getting stuck in tutorials or overthinking, I let iteration be my teacher.

We tested different ways to:

✅ Pull real-time stock & crypto data (API headaches included)

✅ Calculate Sharpe, Sortino, and Monte Carlo risk metrics

✅ Visualize insights with interactive charts & dashboards

✅ Simulate leveraged trades and see how risk scales

Some Unexpected Hurdles

🚧 APIs are finicky – Some data sources were too slow or rate-limited

🚧 Leverage risk isn’t straightforward – Multiplying returns also means multiplying volatility

🚧 Monte Carlo simulations are heavy – Running thousands of market scenarios needs serious optimization

Some things we wanted to test but didn’t get to:

🔹 Multi-asset comparisons (stocks vs. crypto side-by-side)

🔹 Portfolio allocation strategies beyond just risk metrics

🔹 Predictive modeling for future trade outcomes

All things I’ll be tackling in the future—this is just one step in a much bigger vision.

Sunday: Reset & Recharge

After a full day of brain-flexing, Sunday was for living. My partner had the day off, so we made the most of it:

🍣 Mizumi’s all-you-can-eat sushi & Asian buffet – Top-tier indulgence.

🌊 Haulover Park at sunset – Just watching the ocean, unwinding.

🏡 Home reset – Prepping the house for another week, closing loops on lingering tasks.

It felt really good to step away from work and just be present.

The Bigger Picture

This year is off to an incredible start. I’ve realized that when I give myself more patience and grace, my body feels safer, heals faster, and performs better. A shift in clients, exciting upcoming travel, and a genuine sense of optimism have made a huge difference in my overall mindset.

I’m happier, clearer, and more excited than ever to write these kinds of posts—documenting not just what I’m building, but who I’m becoming.

This is the kind of stuff I’ll be sharing more of in this paywalled section of the blog—behind-the-scenes looks at what I’m working on, how I’m thinking about business and finance, and the personal growth that’s fueling it all.

Here’s to more building, learning, and actually enjoying life this year. 🚀
